I define design as “interpretation”. Interpretation is not just translation, it's the process of understanding and revealing hidden meaning. I propose two interpretive approaches to design. The first is based on reciprocal altruism, which seeks to contribute to social development through design by making others interpret in good faith. The second is rationalism, which emphasizes designers' efforts to find the rational context in user responses. From the perspective of this interpretation, I focused on the problem of indifference in society. Modern people are becoming indifferent to others and society, which leads to misunderstanding and social problems. To solve this problem, I designed a service that connects personal experiences and social events. The core idea is to show a personal photo on a smartphone alongside a news photo from the same point in time. By connecting the ‘decisive moment’ of the two photos, I hope to interpret personal experiences in a social context and open up new opportunities for understanding. The name of the service is ‘사진사’, which means both a person who takes photos and a history seen through photos.
