Hallars Cookies

Overview

Hallars Cookies is a butter cookies brand. Shaped as gold coins and packed in a dollar bill box, its concept is having cookies as an emotional investment, as we all know, cookies bring happiness.

Background

This is a project from Prof. Boyeun Kim’s Storytelling-Based Design class. This project began with a random prompt sentence, which was “Energy is valuable, don’t waste it”. From the prompt sentence, students were told to create a story based on it. After some exploration of how the sentence should be translated into a story, I came up with a short movie that imagined “What if we need to pay every time we are angry?” (Watch here: https://youtu.be/Zji_5edwtzU?feature=shared). The word “energy” in the prompt sentence is translated as “our emotions”. The movie’s message is to consider that every time we are irritated or angry, we “spend” our emotion or energy, therefore we should “spend” it wisely and not waste it. The next phase of the project required the students to create a brand or a design from the story written before. With that, I designed the brand Hallars Cookies, because cookies can bring happiness and add energy (both physically and emotionally). Therefore, the design imitates dollar bills and gold coins, showing that Hallars Cookies can add value to our emotions, while on the other hand, being mad or angry reduces value to it.
